Het idee lag er werkelijk al járen, maar toen ik ergens op een citaat stuitte en besefte dat ik niet eens meer wist hoe het liedje überhaupt klonk, maar het citaat me nog herinnerde, kwam het weer boven en ging ik ermee aan de slag. Het idee is simpel: een tekst maken die bestaat uit allemaal regels van liedjes die ik mooi vind. De regels, bedoel ik, want er zijn ook mooie regels uit lelijke liedjes, bleek, en uit sommige supermooie liedjes kan ik toch geen mooie regel halen. Het enige criterium is dat ik het een mooie zin vind, wat betekent dat het waarschijnlijk een viertalig gedicht gaat worden: Nederlands, Italiaans, Grieks en Engels. Dat is overigens ook de rangorde van het aantal gevonden regels, want ik luister eigenlijk maar weinig Engelstalige muziek. Ik moet dus op jacht naar Engelse zinnen, want ik wil wel een beetje een evenwicht in de verschillende talen als het even kan.
Uiteraard is dit geen project dat je in een paar uur afmaakt. Ik zit inmiddels al een paar weken in het proces en het bevalt me steeds beter! Ik begon tamelijk random met mooie zinnen die al in mijn hoofd zaten of die ik toevallig tegenkwam. Interessant genoeg ontstonden er toen als vanzelf twee thema's: dromen en realiteit, en de zee. Vervolgens zocht ik verder met die twee thema's in gedachten, en inmiddels ben ik doelgericht mijn muziekcollectie aan het luisteren om te verzamelen wat nog niet uit zichzelf naar me toe kwam.
Zoals gezegd heb ik vooral nog Engelse zinnen nodig, dus suggesties zijn welkom! Te zijner tijd zal ik het resultaat natuurlijk ook hier posten.
The idea had been lingering in my mind for years, but when I happened to bump into a quote and realised I didn't know anymore how the song even sounded, but I did remember the quote, it came back to me and I started working on it. The idea is simple: make a text that is made from different lines from songs that I like. The lines, I mean, because it turns out there are also beautiful line from ugly songs and very beautiful songs in which I cannot find a beautiful line. The only criterium is that I find it a beautiful phrase, which means it is probably going to be a text in four languages: Dutch, Italian, Greek and English. Which by the way is also the order of the amount of found lines, because I don't listen to English songs much, so I'll have to search for some English phrases, for I do want to keep a certain balance in the use of the different languages if I can.
Of course this is not a project that you can finish in a couple of hours. I am in the process for a few weeks now and enjoying it more and more! I started with random beautiful sentences that were already in my mind or that I found accidentally. Interestingly, that way two themes emerged by themselves: dreams and reality, and the sea. I continued searching with those themes in mind and by now I am listening to my music collection with the purpose of collecting what didn't come to me so far.
As I said above, I still need English phrases, so suggestions are very welcome! Of course I will also post the result here once it's finished.
