Chagrin Valley shampoo bar review

As I announced before, the last couple of weeks I have tested the first Chagrin Valley shampoo bar. I started with the Chamomile and Citrus shampoo. Washing with it is nice: you just rub the soap on your wet hair, which creates a very soft and creamy foam. This shampoo indeed smells like citrus and chamomile, a nice and fresh scent. The strange thing is, that even though the foam is very soft, as soon as you rinse your hair, it turns really stiff.

The instructions say you should rinse your hair with vinegar, but I didn't do that the first two times, because I read reviews of people who didn't do it plus I wanted to know what the shampoo itself does. Well, if you ever want mega volume for some sort of cosplay, this is what you need! My hair got a overdone beach effect, it felt greasy and stiff and it could almost stand up straight (though usually it is very sleek). It also looked a little bit frizzy (which is never an issue usually), but nobody commented on my hair, so I guess it wasn't so bad.

After the third time washing I rinsed my hair with water with vinegar and though I noticed some difference, my hair still felt a little weird and looked a little fuzzy. But right when I thought: o well, it's not as great as people say, but I think it's good enough, suddenly I had my own hair back, after washing 8 times or so. It's still a little more stiff and less smooth, but it feels soft again and has a very nice shine to it. I love the extra volume and it feels clean. I went from washing it 4-5 times a week to 3 times and that is fine. In the picture you see my hair as it was right before I started using the shampoo bar and sometime last week - in both I had a bit of a bad hair day and tried to make my hair look as good as I could with my hands before taking the picture. It really is a great shampoo for me!

So how expensive is it compared to 'normal' products? I kept a record of how often I washed my hair and weighed the soap and today I did some more measuring and calculating with my old products. Compared to the Andrélon Verrassend Volume shampoo and conditioner that I used before, it is a little more expensive. Taking the costs of a big bar of shampoo (not the little trial bars I have now), shipping costs of 1 bar as charged by Dutch webshop Louland and the cheapest vinegar Albert Heijn supermarket sells, I calculated (with my not so very precise measuring) it costs about 23 eurocents for each time you wash your hair, against about 15 cents with Andrélon. Relatively speaking that is quite a difference, but in actual costs that means about 25 cents a week. I think more beautiful hair and a natural, more environment friendly product are worth that!

Today I washed my hair for the first time with the Mud and Clay shampoo, I am curious if I will really notice a difference!
